Tales for Two's

I signed Sophie and I up for a 6 week free reading program at the library a couple months ago and yesterday was her last class.  We met once a week for a half hour and read books, did finger plays, and sang songs with Ms. Sue.  It was fun to get some alone time with Sophie, thanks to all the friends who helped out watching Tessa!!

I learned a something about Sophie from this class.  She doesn't need me.  Unlike most of the other 2 year olds, Sophie didn't want to sit on my lap and didn't need my prompting to answer questions or participate.  I'm proud of you Sophie!!

11 monthday

Tessa wasn't in the mood for a photo shoot yesterday for her 11 monthday, and I didn't have much time... so we didn't get anything good.  But at least you can see her size!

11 months - Tessa with 2 bears

I have to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE this age.  Tessa is so dang cute, I have to scoop her up and kiss her face off several times a day.  Here's what Tessa is up to at 11 months:

  • saying "ma ma ma ma"  all day, with an occasional "da da" although I know she loves him more by the way she reacts when he comes home
  • emptying baskets, cupboards and shelves and then trying to refill them
  • clapping, when Tessa claps she is so proud of herself, it's adorable
  • getting her point across by pointing grunting and squealing at or towards stuff she wants
  • crawling at lightning speed
  • standing alone a lot but wised up about taking those accidental steps, doesn't let those slide anymore!
  • drinking lots of formula, she weaned herself last month much to my dismay and chows down on as much formula as we'll give her
  • being disciplined... I started using timeout for Tessa this month (much earlier than we did with Soph), it cracks me up because she knows when she's being naughty and says, "uh oh" knowing that's what I'm about to say when I take her to her room
  • just being a smartie, Tessa knows how to open things, turn them over, move around and through to get what she wants; if there's an obstacle she's got the brain to overcome it

We love you Tess!!

chair races, snow watching, and sisterly love

Long title, I know.  And I usually don't post these kind of pictures since they aren't very monumental, but since my little sis had a baby and I am SOOOO hungry for pictures and can't get enough... I better understand how my family feels having my kids (their nieces, and grandchildren) so far away.  My blogging Friend Ali is really good at making interesting posts about anything and then throwing in pictures of her kids in a logical sort of way... I'm not so good at that.  So until I figure that out, here's a few pictures of stuff from the last week:

Chair races

Yes, there were injuries, but the girls had a great time!

Morning Escapades

Just the other morning Sophie decided to put an orange Tic-Tac up her nose.  They are also referred to as "Gama canny," since my mom always has them for her.  Tessa really likes it when I forget to close my closet door so she can take ALL my shoes off the rack.

Sisters playing TOGETHER

This doesn't happen often: both girls playing together, smiling and not hurting each other... definitely picture worthy.  They are getting better at it though!  The time they seem to get along best is in the car.  I think it's because they can see each other but not reach each other to take toys or hit.  They often make each other laugh while I drive around running errands, so sweet!

poor Sophie

As if croup and laryngitis wasn't enough, Sophie's got a UTI (urinary tract infection) now! Poor girl is in a lot of pain and doesn't want to use the potty. Getting a urine sample at the doctor's office this morning took us 2 hours... not fun for anyone! Glad she finally did it, felt like a huge victory!! At least they didn't have to catheterize her. She makes me crazy, but I still feel bad for the little pistol. She's had a rough weekend. :(

just for fun

tess in a hat - page

Tessa loved playing with Sophie's hat the other day while I was getting her dressed.  She was being such a ham, I just had to pull out the camera!

The rest of these pictures are from Friday we went to the park... although we probably shouldn't have.  Not an hour later Sophie got a high fever and wanted to do nothing.  The poor girl developed a terrible cough and croup that night.  Croup is freaky!!  Dan and I were watching a movie after the girls were in bed that night and I faintly heard Sophie crying.  I ran in there to find her soaked in drool (she couldn't swallow), wheezing and struggling for breathe!  Here eyes were huge and she kicked her arms and legs in a fit to get air.  I rushed her to the bathroom and turned the shower on hot to fill the room with steam.  It worked, and she was asleep in Dan's arms as soon as she was breathing well.  I didn't like that one bit and slept on the floor next to her bed the rest of the night because I was so freaked out.  Tessa got a cold but luckily she never had the breathing problems like Sophie.

They had a fun time at the park anyway!  This is one of my favorites because it has the spongy ground everywhere, no sand or bark, less messy.  Sophie's been wearing that silly crown everywhere lately.  I think she looks like a celebrity toddler trying to hide her identity with glasses and a hat.

The last three of Tess on the slide were funny.  I was trying to get her to look at the camera at the top of the slide and while I was busy messing with my camera she just slid down on her own!  She thought it was pretty hilarious and gave me a good chuckle.  The weather has been gorgeous, I am hoping for more of these fall temperatures for as long as possible before Christmas.

my little sis had a BABY!

I love my little sister Jenny very much and naturally was just bursting when I found out she was pregnant about 8 months ago… notice I said 8 months.  Dean Thomas Kendall decided to come about 4 weeks early and was born this morning in Houston.  I wish I could be there to just hold him and take in his sweet baby smell.  I love them fresh from heaven.  Even though he was early both mom and baby are healthy and happy!

Jenny and Dean

When I got a text from James (the new dad) just after 5 this morning I turned to Dan and told him the stats:

“Dan!  He’s here!!  6lb 9oz… DAN!”

“Uhhhh, urrrr (grumble, grumble) uh huh? good.”

I wanted to talk to him about how exciting it was but he was not interested at that time.  It’s not that Dan’s not a morning person as much as he’s not a good person to try to talk to when he’s not fully awake, any time of day.  Anyway, I just lied in bed and smiled to myself and remembered what it feels like holding your brand new baby in the hospital, YOUR very own baby.  It was a special moment for me, since I don’t remember many things these days.  I thought about how Jenny must be feeling, just pure joy!  Ok, there IS some fatigue and pain mixed in there somewhere… but mostly just so much joy and awe for this great miracle!  I had tears rolling down my cheeks wishing I could be there to get a glimpse of that feeling.  I’m so happy for you Jen!  I love babies, and I love YOU little Dean!

Congrats to the Kendalls!!

Halloween

halloween - trunk or treat page

The ward trunk or treat was really fun this year.  They did games inside and then trunk or treating outside afterwards.  Dan won the doughnut eating contest!  He sure put all the 2 and 3 year olds to shame!!  Sophie liked the doughnuts but especially enjoyed learning how to play BINGO.  Tessa's favorite was when Dan gave her a sucker, look at her costume, it was a mess.  Oh and in case you are wondering, we were Goldilocks (Sophie) and the 3 bears!  I was worried that Sophie would be jealous when she saw all the Disney princesses at the party but she LOVED it!  She thought we were at Disneyland I think.  She would say things like, "Mom, Sophie go talk a pirate?" gesturing towards a little girl dressed as a pirate.  Then she would go up to the chosen character and say something like, "Hi, Snow White, Hi!  I am Goldilocks."  We visited several celebrities.

halloween - trick or treat page

halloween - family w borderSince Sophie had been talking about it for a few months we decided we'd better go out a do some real trick-or-treating too.  At the mention of Halloween she has been saying, "Knock, knock!  TRICK-OR-TREAT!! Thank you!"  I thought she understood how it worked... but I was wrong.

The first house we went to I let Sophie go up to the door with the other kids we were out with and figured she would follow the older kids' lead.  I was standing on the drive way with the other adults.  The doorbell was rung and the door was opened.  "TRICK-OR TREAT!"  the children beamed.  It was kind of hard to see over the banister on their porch but while the nice man was giving perfect strangers candy (we live in an apartment complex and no one gives out candy so we went to a neighborhood across the street).  Anyway, I couldn't see well but I thought I saw Sophie go in the door!  I ran up there, barged inside the house to find Sophie wandering around their living room looking for candy!  She did get the hang of it, but I was very explicit that she stay OUTSIDE where she can see her Mommy.

Halloween - Soph and Jake candy necklaces Halloween - Tess and Kim

That's Sophie with the love of her life, Jake!  She really does have a serious obsession, when he's over she can't stop saying his name and having him do everything for her and notice everything she's doing.  They are enjoying the clear winner of the Halloween loot, candy necklaces.  A perfect combination!  And the other picture that didn't make it on the scrapbook pages is Tessa adoring Kim, aka- Sophie's competition (she's Jake's wife).

Halloween - soph putting on make up  sisters playing - tummy blowing

These 2 are just other pictures I took this weekend.  Sophie putting on make up with me Saturday morning, a little too much bronzer on the forehead!  And Sophie blowing on Tessa's stomach.  They enjoy playing together... sometimes. :)
