The morning of Tessa’s 2nd birthday I brought my camera into her room, thought I should capture her waking up 2 years old!
That’s the happiest looking picture I got. :) Sophie and I sang her Happy Birthday, and she liked it, but still complained about it being too bright. Maybe she woke up grumpy because she knew I had the worst birthday present ever lined up for her that morning…
Her (and Sophie’s) first trip to the dentist!!
I didn’t choose the day really, they receptionist suggested it and I agreed. I figured that since Dan and I haven’t been in to a dentist in about 4 years we should take the first available appointment. But it’s not as bad as it sounds because these lucky girls get their Uncle Matt for their dentist!! Fun right?
Well, when we once visited Matt’s office just to see it and he did a sort of pretend/practice visit so the girls could warm up to the idea of coming to see him in a few months (when we got dental insurance). Tessa was great that day and Sophie was awful, she was completely hysterical and wouldn’t sit in the chair at all, she was literally crying kicking and screaming!
Since that day we’ve really been working on it with Sophie, checking out books from the library and just talking about everything that would happen at the Dentist’s office. We didn’t worry about Tessa… oops.
Sophie was like a puppet, opened as wide as she could pretty much the whole time, even when it wasn’t needed. If Matt or his assistant asked her anything she didn’t understand she would just open her mouth wide! It was really funny. She was pretending to be Jessie that day (she’s ALWAYS pretending to be something unless we tell her she HAS to be Sophie because she’s in school or whatnot) This is why her hair is in a braid with a yellow bow at the bottom, she’s very particular. She deemed Uncle Matt to be Woody. In the 2nd picture you can see her getting her fluoride painted on, when they finished she closed her mouth and said, “Mmmm, that’s delicious! Thank you.” What a doll, we were so proud of her for overcoming her fear!
Plus it didn’t hurt at all that Matt had brought in the girls their very own PRESENT they could have when they were done! (Thanks Cami!!) Tessa got 2 since it was her birthday.
Poor Tessa feel asleep in the car just before we arrived at the office. I had to wake her up and she was just off her game the whole time. We couldn’t even get her to take off her coat! So Matt examined her mouth with the hood on and all. Since she wouldn’t sit in the chair this time we did a “knee to knee” exam so she could be on my lap and I could hold her hands down. Poor baby, happy birthday! :) Matt was super fast though, he was wonderful.
Isn’t Sophie just the cutest thing in that huge coat thing getting her x-rays done? She was better than we could have imagined!
