Daddy Daughter Ball

Chapman, Dan Soph Tess

I was called to be the Primary president in our ward last November, and in January the Bishop asked me if the Primary would be in charge of the Daddy Daughter Ball.  I was so scared!  We missed the ball last year, it was right after we had moved in.  But I had heard rumors about how it was this AMAZING event was nicer than many people’s wedding receptions, and how the girls just live for it!  Of course I said we would do it, but I told him how intimidated I was. :)  Fortunately, someone who had helped put it together last year said she would help me.

Now, we didn’t decorate it to the same level it had been in years past, but I think we did a pretty good job, and once the lights were down the the DJ was thumping the music the cultural hall had completely transformed! In the past it had been a fundraiser and people bought tickets to attend, but this year it was a free activity, so I hoped that no one would expect too much.

These girls were in H-E-A-V-E-N!  Seriously.  I don’t think they cared it wasn’t quite as fancy.

I also ran the photo booth which was a lot of fun (see the top picture).  It was definitely a night to remember!  I must admit I got teary eyed watching these dads hold their little girls up in their arms for a slow dance, they put their heads on their dads’ shoulder and I was done for, weeping up a storm!  It was just the sweetest thing.

Now I have a big pile of pink and black decorations in my basement. :)  Guess we’re ready for next year!

December dabbles

Ward Christmas Party

Sophie was Mary for the nativity.  It was total neputism! j/k  Seriously though, I was the brand new Primary president when I found out I was in charge of the program at the last minute and it was easier to just have Sophie do it then ask someone else. Smile  Oh and I asked Dan to play his viola too.  He played the most beautiful arrangement of How Great Thou Art and The First Noel, I wish I had recorded it.

Sophie was over the moon excited to see Santa!  Tessa would rather stack princesses. She’s never sat on Santa’s lap since she’s had a choice.

Jacob could have done without it, but Dan wanted the funny photo.

I walked into the bathroom to see this adorable sight one night and I had to just RUN for the camera.  He wants to be big so badly!

New Christmas Traditions

The candle was a gift from the Relief Soceity, it had 25 lines drawn on it and starting on Dec 1st every night we turned off all the lights in the house and while the candle burned down to the next line we read Christmas stories, scriptures, made shadow puppets, or just talked.  It was a really fun and memorable tradition that I want to do again.

We were given another fun idea to do a Christmas Express.  I made some Polar Express tickets and placed them on the girls’ pillows so when they went to climb in bed for the night they found them.  They came running out to show us!

Then we got to tell them that we were going to ride the Christmas Express!  And it was waiting in the garage!  I had made treat bags for them which were waiting on their seats, and hot chocolate in their cup holders.  Then we drove around and looked at Christmas lights.

It was a lot of fun and they’ve talked about it quite a lot since!

the rest of September in a nutshell

Sophie likes to play rough and asks her dad to play rough with her often.  He has to tone it down for Tessa and Jacob, but they all love it!

I nabbed this slide from craig’s list for 20 bucks, to try and get the kids more interested in playing in the backyard.

We went up to the mountains on a Sunday afternoon to see the fall leaves, we didn’t find many leaves that had turned but I set up the tripod and the timer and took a few family pictures.

Sophie is learning to spell phonetically, and I love it!  I think its so so cute.  Look at the paper below, she spelled “sprcalfaulisxbaladosis” (think Mary Poppins).

One morning when I came out of the shower and the girls were freaking out saying that there was a little red scorpion on the tree in the backyard!  I told them to stay away from it so it didn’t pinch them and that I would be out there as soon as I could get dressed.  I grabbed my camera and ran out to see this… look closely, it’s just a dead ear wig in the bark.  Such drama queens!

Jacob and the lemon, I think these faces are just so hilarious!  Why he keeps putting it in his mouth I do not know!!  When I pulled these up I was laughing out loud, I love you Jacob.
